Frisco Arts Welcomes an Exciting 2010

Happy New Year! Frisco Arts is thrilled about exciting new developments for the Arts in Frisco in 2010.

First, Frisco Arts welcomes 4 new board members!

Dave Coates, owner of Abrakadoodle here in Frisco, was head of the Children's Section of the Frisco Arts Festival;

Karen Callaghan, curator of Newman Village in Frisco, was instrumental in the planning of the Frisco Arts Festival;

Michael Schaefer, an IT consultant with Southwest Airlines, whose love of the Arts extends to membership in the Collin County Songwriters Association and the Frisco Jazz Band, and who helped coordinate the entertainment at the Frisco Arts Festival; and

David Natinsky, owner of SAGE/Quick Technologies, Inc., has a degree in Technical Theater and is a long time volunteer with the WaterTower Theatre and the Taste Addison festival.

We're so happy to have each of our new directors on board!

Second, we are anxiously awaiting the completion of a "Black Box Theatre" in Frisco to be located south of City Hall next to the new Sci-Tech Discovery Museum. Thank you to the City of Frisco and to the Frisco Community Development Corporation! We can't wait for our local non-profits to have a local venue for productions!

Lastly, we are currently planning the Second Annual Frisco Arts Festival! Last year's Festival attracted 6,000 attendees, over 200 volunteers, and over 125 artists. We're ready to compound our successes and continue to grow in 2010!

I wish all of you a happy and healthy New Year, and we look forward to watching Frisco continue to grow into a vibrant Arts community!

All my best!

Cynthia Hurley, President
Frisco Association for the Arts

P~WHAT?
If you are wondering what P-WHAT stands for, you are not alone. P-WHAT is a catch phrase that can be overheard when discussing the unique new business arriving in Frisco, Texas. The acronym stands for Painting with a Twist, a new concept that showcases artistic painting as entertainment.

A place where people can get away from it all........ for 2 or 3 hours, they can trade everyday stressors for creativity, camaraderie and relaxation." Painting with a Twist provides a pleasurable, innovative environment, where anyone can experience firsthand the excitement of creating their own work of art by allowing you to follow a local artist as she guides you through a step-by-step process of recreating a featured picture. Following the instructor each step of the way allows each person the ability to create a one-of-a-kind masterpiece that can be taken home at the end of the evening.

The "Painting" part of the name has been covered. It comes from creating your own masterpiece while following the instructions of a local artist. Paints, canvas, brushes and apron are provided. As for the "Twist" part of the equation, attendees are encouraged to bring along a bottle of wine or favorite beverage, as well as snacks. Ice buckets, cork screws and glasses are readily on hand.

Opening January 9th, Painting with a Twist will successfully bring color to a sometimes dreary world. Not only will one leave with a unique piece of art, but with a sense of accomplishment and pride as well.

Painting with a Twist offers 2 or 3 hour sessions. Upcoming featured paintings can be found on website. Single, group and private party reservations are available. Fees are $35 for two hour sessions and $45 for three hour sessions.

For reservations or additional information on Painting with a Twist call 469-362-6636 or email us, frisco@paintingwithatwist.com.

"Who is Frisco Arts?"

Frisco Arts is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit, community based organization formed by citizens and business leaders and serves as a vital agent and community partner in supporting and promoting the arts in Frisco. Frisco is a young and growing community, and Frisco Arts recognizes that the arts are an important tool for educational, economic and community development. Frisco Arts was recently designated the Local Arts Agency for the City of Frisco through a resolution by the City Council.

In 2008, Frisco Arts hosted over 300 art related events at our facility at 6827 Main Street. More than 3,000 people attended these events. In addition, we also provide grants, scholarships, and sponsorships to a variety of local art groups who bring art to the citizens of Frisco.
