Adele Anthony, internationally acclaimed violinist, brings skills to the community. No strings attached!

The public is invited to observe free of charge as world renowned violinist Adele Anthony holds a master class from 4:30-6:00 p.m., Friday, Sept. 28, at St. Andrew United Methodist Church in Plano. After the Master Class at 7:15 p.m., please stay to observe as Ms. Anthony rehearses the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto with the Plano Symphony Orchestra for the following night's performance on September 29.

The Plano Symphony Orchestra (PSO) continues to partner with area schools to offer this invitation-only opportunity to a small number of top violin students from the North Dallas area. Continuing with its fine tradition of community outreach, the symphony recognizes the importance of bringing a soloist - the caliber of Ms. Anthony - to our community. "We have very promising musicians among us and with the encouragement and interaction of great musicians like Adele, there is no telling how far these students can reach. We want to give our children the chance to see these artists at work", says Alice Hobbs, Executive Director of the PSO.

According to April Kondrat, the symphony's Director of Education, "Each student will perform a piece from standard violin repertoire and Ms. Anthony will provide critique" relative to technique, style and artistic quality. Anthony also will offer insights about musical careers to the students and audience. "So, whether you're a violin enthusiast in the audience or performing on stage for Ms. Anthony, everyone will benefit greatly from this rare opportunity" says Kondrat.

Since winning the Carl Nielsen International Violin Competition in 1996, Adele Anthony has performed with many orchestras including Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, Budapest Philharmonic Orchestra, Denmark's Aalborg and Aarhus Symphony Orchestras, Finland's Kuopio Symphony Orchestra, the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, the Iceland Symphony Orchestra, the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, the NDR Orchestra Hannover, and the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France. She has performed often with her famous husband, violinist Gil Shaham; recorded on both the Naxos and Deutsche Grammophone labels; appeared at the Aspen Music Festival, and much more!

Ms. Anthony is the recipient of numerous awards and prizes. At age 13, Ms. Anthony was the youngest winner of the ABC Instrumental and Vocal Competition, performing the Sibelius Violin Concerto with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra; the prize also featured a live national telecast of the Tchaikovsky Concerto. She won second prize at the 1993 Jacques Thibaud International Violin Competition in Paris and was a prize-winner at the 1994 Hannover International Violin Competition. She has received awards from the Australia Council, the South Australian Government and The Queen's Trust, and in 1990 she was invited by the National Arts Club in New York to perform at the presentation of the Medal of Honor to Zubin Mehta.

Ms. Anthony studied at the Conservatory of the University of Adelaide with Beryl Kimber until 1987 and continued her studies at New York's Juilliard School, where she worked with the eminent teachers Dorothy DeLay, Felix Galimir and Hyo Kang. Adele Anthony performs on an Antonio Stradivarius violin, crafted in 1728. She resides in New York City with her husband and son, Elijah.

Anthony will perform with the Plano Symphony Orchestra on opening night of their 25th Anniversary season at 8:15pm, Saturday, Sept. 29, at the Charles Eisemann Center for the Performing Arts at 2351 Performance Drive in Richardson.
